1 – how to receive the music

I am producing a DVD or a CD-Rom and I need some tracks to synchronize with the images. How can I receive the CDs?

You can request them directly from us and we will send them to you free of charge. There is also a DVD-ROM (Fast Library) available with our entire archive in mp3 format.

To request our CDs and DVD go to the Contacts page.

Is there a more direct way of obtaining the music?

Yes. If you are a registered user, you can access our new on-line DB service through the website. This enables you to download the tracks you have chosen unabridged, in high-resolution mp3 format and free of charge. If you prefer to work with other formats (wave, aiff, etc), tell us which tracks and formats you need by telephone or email. We will soon send you a link which allows you to download them through FTP.

2 – how to register on the website

What are the advantages of registering on your website?

The advantages that you can enjoy by registering on the website are: complete access to the on-line Catalogue (enabling you to download the unabridged version of the tracks); the possibility of using our sound editing service, the creation of personalized tracks (Your version), and benefiting from our advice about music, copyright and technical issues; in addition you will receive a 20% discount on the rates for our recording studio (Openstudio), all free of charge.

How much does it cost to register on the website?

It is completely free. The only requirement is that you are a professional or a member of a company which works in the sector and that you fill out the form on the Registration page. You will receive an email with confirmation of your registration and a password which you can change whenever you like.

3 – the licence in general

Is it necessary to have a licence in order to use the music?

Yes. The user licence must be requested directly from SIAE (Production Music Service) if music and images are to be used exclusively on:

  • audiovisual: DVD and VHS

  • multimedia: DVD-Rom and CD-Rom

A licence must be requested from Opensound for the synchronization of music in:

  • advertisements

  • documentaries, shorts and feature-length films

  • television series and programmes

  • Internet sites

  • exhibitions, trade fairs, museums, and anything else held in public places

  • promotional CDs

4 – the Production Music (PM) licence

What should I do to obtain a PM licence?

Go to the nearest SIAE office (see list) or certified branch (Bolzano, Catania, Perugia, Pescara and Reggio Calabria) and submit the user licence form, completed in all its sections: title of track, composers, editors, name of library (‘Opensound music library’), length. SIAE’s receipt immediately entitles you to use the track. Within the next six to nine months, SIAE will make licences available on-line.

Where can I find the user licence form?

You can find it on the Licences page of our website, on the SIAE website (PM section) or directly at the SIAE offices and certified branches.

Can you help me fill out the form?

Of course. If you are a registered user, you can benefit from our consultancy service and you will receive all the necessary assistance.

Does this licence enable me to use the film on the internet?

Yes, as long as you specify it on the form by completing the section ‘Estensione licenza per uso su siti web’ (‘Extension of Licence for use on websites’) and pay an additional 50% of the rate. Please note, though, that this licence does NOT replace the (compulsory) general licence for the use of music on the internet which must be obtained from SIAE.

5 – the rates for PM

How mush will it cost me to use your music for synchronization onto audiovisual and multimedia data storage devices?

Opensound is a member of SIAE’s Production Music service, which charges standard rates agreed upon by professionals in the field. The rate is € 0,70 per second of music (playing time) for products to be used in the Italian market, € 1,00 for Europe, € 1,40 for the rest of the world. This fee is applied for the first 30 minutes of use. From 31 to 60 minutes the fee is reduced to 50%. From 61 minutes onwards it goes down to 25%.

The minimum fee is € 80,00. A table with all our rates is available on the Licences page of our website and on the SIAE website (PM section).

The cost seems too high. Is there any way of paying less?

No. Our agreement with SIAE is exclusive and binding.

6 – costs for other uses

How much does it cost to use your music for the internet, advertisements, big events, films, promotional CDs?

Contact us writing how you intend to use the music and we will send you an estimate as quickly as possible.

7 – original music

Is it possible to obtain original music, not taken from any of your CDs?

Yes, it’s possible.

Is there an additional cost?

Yes. This is established according to the type of music and the product for which it will be used. After you brief us we will be able to give you an estimate.

8 – alternative versions of the music

I saw on your catalogue that some tracks exist in various versions. What does this involve?

Often it is useful to have a track in multiple versions, for example with the theme played by different instruments, with or without rhythmics, or in versions that have a ‘lighter’ musical texture. Many of our tracks have already been mixed and published with these characteristics.

I like one of your tracks but I haven’t found a version that is appropriate for my needs. Can you help me?

Of course. The service we offer, called "Your version", provides registered users with personalized versions of one or more tracks, created according to the instructions you give us. Contact us for more information.

9 – musical advice

Can you help me to select and edit a piece of music? How much does this cost?

Of course. If you are a registered user, there is no additional cost.

How can we send you our film/storyboard/images?

In whichever way is most convenient for you; we will select the music and, if you want, edit it onto the film. We will then send it back to you. Alternatively, you can send us a storyboard and we will advise you about the most appropriate tracks.
